ALL SOULS BOLTON
The conversion of a stunning Grade II* listed church in Bolton to provide a diverse range of community facilities including a library, meeting spaces, classrooms, exhibition areas and a gym. It is one of a number of projects that we've undertaken for the Churches Conservation Trust with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The large aisle-less nave has allowed the insertion of new structures that stand free of the existing walls and roof. The movement system threads its way through and around these new elements, allowing users to experience the existing building from a series of unusual vantage points. The form of the insertions is deliberately manipulated to enhance the counterpoint between the new and existing fabric of the church and to maintain a clear reading of the original nave.
