CHESTERFIELD WATERSIDE
This is a major, mixed-use regeneration proposal for a twenty-three hectare site on the edge of Chesterfield town centre. The intention is to dramatically transform a tract of redundant industrial land along the valley bottom into a vibrant, waterside urban village that accommodates residential, commercial, retail and leisure uses. We think of this development as a citadel, in which the form and grain of the new buildings echo some of the idiosyncrasies of Chesterfield's medieval townscape – where an intricate pattern of intimate streets and squares create an unfolding journey. It is hoped that the masterplan will shift and adapt over time in response to changing circumstances and that what will emerge is a real place that has naturally evolved.
