KINGS BUSINESS PARK
This project involves the conversion of a grade II listed Palladian-style villa and stable block into office use and the construction of two new office buildings adjacent to them. This new grouping allows a close interaction between buildings, creating the potential for a sense of place to emerge which sadly is a rare ingredient in most Business Park settings. The form of the new buildings is generated by a response to context and issues of sustainability. A heavy brick side faces north and relates to the main existing building. A lighter more glazed side, facing south with external solar shading, responds to the character of the remainder of the Business Park. Other sustainability measures include the re-use of existing buildings, façades which allow secure night-time ventilation for passive cooling, increased height to the centre of the buildings to introduce daylight and encourage stack-effect natural ventilation, low energy lighting, heat recovery systems and grey water recycling.
