SUPPORTED RESIDENTIAL FACILITIES
This series of residential facilities for Turning Point in various parts of the country provides supported housing for people with learning disabilities. The objective is to provide a non-institutionalised, domestic setting where the local community's most marginalized people can lead full and normal lives. Emphasis is placed on building the skills and confidence needed for independent living. This includes a process of gradually increasing community access, leading to eventual re-settlement where appropriate. A driving principle is the use of a courtyard plan arrangement that provides a focus to the main circulation system within. As well as bringing increased levels of daylight and air into the interior, it also makes for ease of movement between inside and outside. This serves to promote what we refer to as a process of 'planned meandering' in a secure environment at the heart of the building.
