MGS pavilion submitted for approval

18.07.2023

OMI have recently submitted a planning application for a new Sports Pavilion and Sixth Form Centre at The Manchester Grammar School.

The Sixth Form Centre, consisting of teaching spaces and dining facilities, takes its design cues from the school’s 1930s campus, with carefully detailed brickwork and regular glazing patterns, all under a deeply overhanging clay tile roof.

The south facing sports facilities are articulated as a balance of symmetrical and asymmetrical elements, with changing facilities set in a heavyweight plinth sitting above which is a lightweight ‘Pavilion’ that provides viewing terraces around three sides.

It is a great opportunity to be working with a Manchester institution whose history goes back more than 500 years and have the chance to create a sustainable and high quality addition that will serve the future needs for the school and its students.
